The Ontario Medical Library Association was formed by a group of doctors, primarily in Toronto, in 1887. Unlike current 'library associations" this Association operated a library - for twenty years. (This was a fairly common North American activity in the mid to late 19th century.

In 1907 the Ontario Medical Library Association merged with other medical Associations to form the Academy of Medicine, Toronto and their library became the foundation of the library of the Academy.

A paper on the history of the Ontario Medical Library Association appeared in the spring 2007 issue of the Journal of the Canadian Health Libraries Association. v.28:2, pp 49-53.
