The Ontario Medical Library Association was formed by a group of doctors, primarily in Toronto, in 1887. Unlike current 'library associations" this Association operated a library - for twenty years. (This was a fairly common North American activity in the mid to late 19th century. A paper on the history of the Ontario Medical Library Association appeared in the spring 2007 issue of the Journal of the Canadian Health Libraries Association. v.28:2, pp 49-53.
